[Solved] Speccy Portable (PortableApps) - Not Detected (Bug)
-
This topic is about Speccy Portable from PortableApps.com.
But let me start with Recuva Portable, so you see, why I am ussing the versions from PortableApps.com.
For Recuva Portable there is no official new release available:
https://vulndetect.org/topic/2618/recuva-portable-recommended-version-not-availableIn the Piriform forums a moderator wrote me, that Speccy and also Recuva are available at PortableApps.com:
- https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/rcvportable
Therefore, I downloaded these versions for PortableApps.com.
Recuva Portable from PortableApps.com is detected by VulnDetect.
But Speccy Portable from PortableApps.com is NOT detected by VulnDetect.

Recuva is detected because the portable EXE file happens to match the same criteria as the original file, so avoiding to detect it as Recuve would be hard.
However, Speccy has a completely different filename, different properties and even a different version number, so tracking that is not trivial.
In general, any detection of portable apps isn't intentional, it is a coincidence, because the portable app, like Recuva, happens to have the same properties.
I can only encourage anyone who repackages apps as portable to do it the same way as the Recuva portable, it will ease the burden for all users of the portable app, and for us, to keep track of it.

@Tom
These builds from PortableApps.com are 3rd party repacks and not official from Piriform.
Therefore I suggest, that you DO NOT ADD IT in VulnDetect.
Add only the official releases. If you agree, I would close this issue with the status "[Declined]".

When I use the official portable version that I still had in my download archive, then it is detected by VulnDetect.
Issue solved! -
